The Storyteller: Oi-Jia

May 16 @ 8:00 pm - May 17 @ 9:00 pm SMT
RM30 – RM50

Oi-Jia is a solo performance that begins with the experience of becoming a mother.

As fear and anxiety surface in the midst of childcare, a woman turns to examine her own mother, and extends her gaze further to her late grandmother. The family narratives in which she has long believed begin to loosen under scrutiny and questioning – what once seemed like a clear chain of responsibility gradually dissolves, revealing choices and temperaments that cannot be fully attributed to any single generation.

This is neither a letter of accusation to the previous generation nor a ritual of reconciliation.

Rather, Oi-Jia unfolds as a suspended moment – when we can no longer hand our pain entirely to those before us, are we still willing to take responsibility for who we are in the present?

With a minimalist stage and the symbolic presence of a spittoon as its central object, the work allows the audience to witness how narrative collapses and reassembles within a single individual. This is not a display of interpersonal conflict, but a quiet meditation on memory, responsibility and becoming.
