Whispering Pixels

April 28 @ 11:00 am - May 31 @ 1:00 pm SMT
Free

Downtown Kuala Lumpur has always been full of memories. Over the years, and especially after the pandemic, many familiar places such as traditional kopitiams and family-run shops have changed or disappeared, while some have managed to endure. For those who grew up here, these changes are not just physical; they also represent the gradual loss of personal and shared memories.

Whispering Pixels is a physical exhibition and a digital archive that helps preserve these memories using digital technology, allowing them to be experienced by a wider community. As many of these stories are not found in conventional museums, the project documents meaningful personal objects and the stories behind them, creating a living digital archive of shared memories.

A special feature of the project is its co-creation process, where seniors work together with artists and younger generations to document their own stories. They select meaningful objects and participate in activities such as digital photography, scrapbooking, and 3D scanning. This collaboration empowers seniors as co-creators of their own histories while fostering meaningful intergenerational connections.

Whispering Pixels invites everyone to reflect on the changes around them and appreciate the memories embedded in everyday objects.

This is a free walk-in programme that does not require prior bookings or registration. Simply come to the GMBB and enjoy!
