Turn Up & Sing – WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF

WHAT DO YOU MEAN, TURN UP & SING?
The Sound Collective’s Turn Up & Sing series provides an interactive & immersive experience where people come together from all walks of life to sing together and experience the celebration of song and the connective power of singing in harmony. Our Turn Up & Sing sessions provide the opportunity to build community, make some new friends, release stress, and have fun as we raise our powerfully diverse voices as one.
It’s as simple as that – it’s the joy of creating something bigger than ourselves in a room full of beautiful people!
For each session, we pick a single piece of music to rehearse and sing our hearts out to. In our time together, we will:
Engage in some fun vocal warmups
Work through the piece in sections
Explore the lyrics, mood and emotions of the song
Shape some key musical moments
Sing sing sing!
Whether you’re a superstar, chorister, shower singer or have never sung in a group before, you are welcome here – all experience levels are valued in The Sound Collective.
OUR SONG FOR THE SESSION: “WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF”
With Hilary Duff back on tour after all these years, we couldn’t help but revisit the song that made an entire generation of young girls dream a little bigger. Released in 2003, as the dramatic finale of The Lizzie McGuire Movie, What Dreams Are Made Of became an anthem for those of us who grew up in the early 2000s. We watched awkward, relatable Lizzie McGuire suddenly find herself on a huge stage in Rome, having her pop-star moment.. and it felt like we were right there with her. Beneath the lights, the stars and that unforgettable “Hey now, hey now”, the song was about something bigger: finding where you belong, recognising the people and moments that make life special, and believing that something extraordinary could happen to you.
More than two decades later, we’re not those young girls watching Lizzie on a screen anymore. We grew up, and somewhere along the way, we started living the lives we once dreamed about. We’re still figuring things out, taking chances, chasing some dreams, changing others and dreaming up entirely new ones. But when life gets busy and we’re constantly moving on to the next thing, and the next, it’s easy to forget just how far we’ve already come. So maybe this song is our reminder to stop for a moment, look at the lives we’re creating, and remember just how proud our younger selves would be of us. And honestly, getting to sing What Dreams Are Made Of at the top of our lungs with hundreds of people who grew up loving it too? That feels like a little dream come true in itself 🌟
