Tali Tukang Gantung questions the fragile connection between justice and humanity in Malaysia’s criminal justice system. Real-life stories are told from multiple perspectives exposing the human cost of a system that decides who lives and who dies. We are all complicit!

Tali Tukang Gantung (The Hangman’s Rope) is a 60-minute theatre performance. The opening show will be followed by a 60-minute panel discussion, and the closing show will conclude with a candlelight vigil.

Built on real interviews with individuals connected to Malaysia’s death penalty system — including inmates, family members, lawyers, judges, and the prison community, the production explores the human costs of capital punishment. Using the tools of theatre, movement, projection, and music, the play invites audiences to bear witness to how flawed trials and political whims decide who lives and who dies.
