SUMMARY:Someone Who'll Watch Over Me - Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Catch Frank McGuinness’ Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me (Best Foreign Play\, New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award) in this staging directed by Joe Hasham OAM with an international cast from the UK\, Australia & Malaysia. \n======================================== \nPresented by The Actors Studio Foundation and The Actors Studio Seni Teater Rakyat as part of klpac’s 20th anniversary highlight\, Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me returns for its third staging in Malaysia with the support of The Embassy of Ireland in Malaysia and The Australian High Commission Malaysia. \nThis masterpiece by one of Ireland’s most respected playwrights\, Frank McGuinness\, was performed in the West End and then on Broadway for over a year where it was named Best Foreign Play (New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award). \nThree men – an American doctor\, an Irish journalist and an English academic – are abducted and held in a windowless cell. With absolutely no contact with the outside world and an uncertain fate\, they fight boredom by breaking out into song and laughter\, pretend they’re in a flying car and do just about anything to stay sane. \nThe riveting play is based on the real-life abduction of Irishman\, Brian Keenan. Keenan went on to recount his horrific four-and-a-half year ordeal alongside British journalist\, John McCarthy\, in an autobiographical book\, An Evil Cradling (Winner\, Irish Times Literary Prize) which was later made into a film. \nThe Actors Studio’s re-staging is a truly international collaboration featuring Charles Donnelly from the UK\, Kingsley Judd from Australia and Gavin Yap from Malaysia – under the direction of Joe Hasham OAM. \nDon’t miss one of the most startling pieces of theatre you will ever see! The Actors Studio’s past 2011 and 2012 staging of this play in KL\, Penang and Singapore received rave reviews and played to full houses.
