SUMMARY:Kaleidoscope VIII - Hands Percussion International Drumming Festival
DESCRIPTION:Since its inception in 2009\, Kaleidoscope has grown into a significant cultural event that celebrates the limitless energy\, diversity\, and unifying power of percussion.Inspired by the theme Infinite Beats\, this edition reflects the continuity of rhythm across time\, cultures\, and artistic journeys. Kaleidoscope VIII brings together distinguished percussion artists from Japan and Venezuela\, alongside local performers\, in a programme that highlights both mastery and exploration. While this edition looks forward\, it also builds upon a rich legacy—artists from previous Kaleidoscope editions have\, over the years\, successfully shared their performances and artistic voices with audiences in Malaysia\, shaping the festival’s evolving identity. \nMore than a concert series\, Kaleidoscope VIII is an artistic exchange. Through drums\, gongs\, cymbals\, mallets\, and movement\, performers draw from deep-rooted traditions as well as contemporary practices\, creating a dynamic soundscape that bridges heritage and innovation. Each performance contributes to a larger dialogue\, revealing how rhythm continues to adapt\, resonate\, and connect across cultures. \nFor HANDS Percussion\, Infinite Beats reaffirms its commitment to intercultural exchange\, the development of local talent\, and the ongoing effort to position Malaysia as a vital stage for international performing arts. Beyond the stage\,the festival extends into workshops\, school programmes\, community drum circles\, and artist dialogues—encounters that deepen public engagement and highlight the relevance of percussion in today’s world. \nIn Kaleidoscope VIII\, rhythm flows without limits. Each beat carries memory and momentum\, linking past encounters with new possibilities\, and reminding us of the universal pulse that connects us all.

SUMMARY:Tribute to Brian Tan with The klpac Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:As The klpac Orchestra celebrates two extraordinary decades\, it honours the very person who started it all. \nThe late Maestro Brian Tan founded klpac’s first community orchestra\, then named klpac Sinfonietta in 2006. As its very first Resident Conductor and Music Director\, he worked selflessly and tirelessly to build a warm community of musicians and music lovers. A highlight of its 20th anniversary season\, the programme reflects the orchestra’s colourful journey over the years. \nBeginning with the celebratory Tarian Overture\, the concert features a blend of classical and contemporary favourites\, old and new repertoire\, like Romance from Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto in E Minor\, excerpts from Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto\, Defying Gravity from Wicked\, Cinema Paradiso\, Amazing Grace and more. \nWith Lee Hai Lin as concertmaster\, it also welcomes back past collaborators including pianist Dr. Elaine Yap\, soprano Dr. Ang Mei Foong\, yangqin player Tan Yong Yaw as well as singers Rachel Liu\, Kay Wong and Jamie Tan alongside other guest artistes Sam Chin and Jess Teong. \nJoin us to celebrate The klpac Orchestra’s major milestone and to remember the spirit of Brian.
