DESCRIPTION:Presented in Kuala Lumpur\, then Jakarta\, and recently Ipoh\, Tapir Studio’s ‘Tidur Lambak’ now returns back home to the heart of Kuala Lumpur. \n‘Tidur Lambak: Kampung Dalam Kota’ is an immersive rest-based experience that reimagines the nostalgic communal sleeping arrangement associated with the Malaysian practice of ‘balik kampung’ or homecoming. Set in Lake Gardens\, filled with tikars and tilam toto\, an urban park transforms into a temporary “kampung” room – a place to wander\, settle\, lie down and rest. \nThis is an intersection of installation\, projection\, soundscape\, and storytelling. Participants enter a carefully composed sonic and visual environment where intimate dream confessions from Kuala Lumpur blend with meditative\, healing frequencies. The work unfolds in two acts: (1) communal unwinding and (2) individual slumber. Together\, these phases dissolve the boundary between stranger and kin\, forming a rare moment of collective stillness. \n*Audiences are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and bring their own pillow.

DESCRIPTION:《娭毑》是一齣從「成為母親」開始的單人劇。 \n當育兒的恐懼與不安浮現，一名女性回頭凝視自己的母親，並將視線延伸至已經過世的外婆。那些她長久以來深信不疑的家族敘事，在求證與追問中逐漸鬆動。原本清楚的責任鏈開始崩解，留下的是無法完全歸責於任何一代人的選擇與性格交錯。 \n這不是一封對上一代的控訴信，也不是一場和解儀式。《娭毑》更像是一個暫停的瞬間。當我們無法再把痛苦完全交給上一代時，我們是否仍然願意為現在的自己負責？ \n作品以極簡舞台與象徵性物件「痰桶」為核心，讓觀眾看見敘事如何在一個人心中崩解又重組。這不是角色衝突的展示，而是一場對記憶、責任與成為的凝視。 \nOi-Jia is a solo performance that begins with the experience of becoming a mother. \nAs fear and anxiety surface in the midst of childcare\, a woman turns to examine her own mother\, and extends her gaze further to her late grandmother. The family narratives in which she has long believed begin to loosen under scrutiny and questioning – what once seemed like a clear chain of responsibility gradually dissolves\, revealing choices and temperaments that cannot be fully attributed to any single generation. \nThis is neither a letter of accusation to the previous generation nor a ritual of reconciliation. \nRather\, Oi-Jia unfolds as a suspended moment – when we can no longer hand our pain entirely to those before us\, are we still willing to take responsibility for who we are in the present? \nWith a minimalist stage and the symbolic presence of a spittoon as its central object\, the work allows the audience to witness how narrative collapses and reassembles within a single individual. DESCRIPTION:Following January Low as a solo performer whose role has evolved from dancer to mother\, this work asks what it means to be a contemporary female practitioner of Indian classical dance today. It challenges both Low’s and the audience’s perceptions of the Indian classical dancer by foregrounding the unseen physical discipline required to sustain an art form without the certainty of the stage. Pending also examines how Odissi adapts in the digital age\, where learning is slowed\, guidance is virtual\, and feedback unfolds over weeks rather than moments. \nAbout the artist:\nJanuary Low is a Malaysian mid-career dance artist who specialises in Odissi and has been practising for close to 30 years. She spent her formative training in Sutra Dance Theatre and toured extensively with the company for over a decade. Her departure from Sutra in 2009 initiated a process of deep self-inquiry affecting how she chooses to share Odissi with her audience today. \nOver the years Low has been gently observing the rhythm between dance and life and how Odissi continues to exist in her daily South-East Asian female body. As a mother of three\, she continues to challenge themes of agency\, objectification and commodification of the Indian Classical Dancer.

The building functioned primarily as a small retail and commercial hub\, housing modest shops and services that supported the everyday economy of Chinatown. Today\, as many units sit underused\, Bangunan Pak Peng stands as a reminder of the area’s once-vibrant commercial life and its ongoing transition within the city’s urban landscape.

DESCRIPTION:“Don’t lose your A-PEEL!” \nTwisting Shakespeare with polo\, parties\, pranks and pickles-a-plenty in 1930s Penang. \nA very special production for KLSP as this show features a cast of 17 actors\, including both veterans and newbies – all of whom have received our training in performing Shakespeare. \nAlthough this show only use Shakespeare’s text (there will be subtitles in BM and Chinese)\, it is presented within the flamboyant setting of a polo club in 1930s Penang. Here\, Leonato is a Chinese tycoon\, entertaining royalty at his palatial home\, where he is thrilled to discover that the champion polo player wants to marry his daughter. As the partying continues into the weekend\, tricks are played and misunderstandings ensue\, turning laughter into tears until the security guards uncover a dastardly plot\, and finally a happier wedding (or two) can take place. \n“Much Ado About Nothing” can appear to simply be an hilarious tale of pranks and romance\, but it also presents the struggles of a family dealing with the shame of their daughter being falsely accused. DESCRIPTION:Earmarked by Dance Magazine Japan as someone “definitely worth anticipating”\, former Cloud Gate 2 dancer and a Bloom Prize finalist of The Rose International Dance Prize 2025\, Wang Yeu-kwn\, is fast gaining international attention. This certified fisherman is also the first Taiwanese to receive three awards at Japan’s Yokohama Dance Collection. \nWang’s Islands\, the second episode of “A Trilogy — Quest of Relationships”\, began in 2019 as part of the Cloud Gate Wanderers Project. On a quest to unearth his own story and identity\, Wang set sail for Indonesia where he reconnected with dancer Danang Pamungkas. From lone wanderers to kindred companions\, they explored the weight of bodies anchored to land and air\, where identity\, like the shifting shores\, ebbs and flows with the tides. \nThe result is a dance performance that captures the tenderness of the earth and our bond with it. Through graceful movement\, use of the topeng (Indonesian mask) and intimate storytelling\, Wang invites one to reflect on the ties between humans and the islands we call home. \nThis May\, Wang’s Islands will make its Southeast Asian premiere at klpac (Malaysia) followed by a tour to Salihara Arts Centre (Indonesia) after. It marks the fourth consecutive collaboration between the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Malaysia and klpac\, with the support of the Ministry of Culture\, Taiwan. \nIslands was co-commissioned by the National Theater & Concert Hall\, National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying)\, with residency support by Kinosaki International Arts Center and The Place\, as well as production support by FACP – Clare C. & Friends Fellowship. \nFollowing its 2024 premiere at the National Theater & Concert Hall in Taipei\, Islands was staged at The Place in London\, and the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) in Taiwan. \n臺灣編舞家王宇光，被日本舞蹈雜誌（Dance Magazine Japan） 譽為「絕對值得期待的編舞家」， 並入圍首屆英國倫敦沙德勒之井劇院「國際玫瑰舞蹈獎 – 新興編舞家獎」決選 ，其「關係三部曲」創作計畫，近年備受國際舞壇熱議。他曾任雲門2舞者，亦是名擁有漁業證書的漁人，同時獲日本橫濱舞蹈節暨舞蹈大賽「評審團優選」及「藝術家支持獎」的創作者。5月1日至3日，他將於吉隆坡表演藝術中心帶來「關係三部曲」第2部曲 ——《人之島》。 \n2019年，王宇光獲雲門流浪者計畫支持，前往印尼流浪60天，尋找漁人傳說中一條跟自己同重、刻有自己名字的魚。他與印尼舞蹈家 Danang Pamungkas 以身體和生命體驗展開對話交流，探尋身體依附土地和空氣的重量。對自身的認同像島嶼的邊界，隨潮汐而浮動。從證明自己到攜手相伴，這趟身體漂泊的旅程，我們瞥見島嶼在柔軟與堅韌之間承載人的力量。 \n也許，到了島嶼之外，我們才開始認識了我們。 \n本次亦為《人之島》東南亞首演，隨後將巡演至印尼Salihara藝術中心，這也是吉隆坡表演藝術中心及駐馬來西亞臺北經濟文化辦事處繼《路呐》、《魔幻京劇》及《感謝公主》之後，第四度聯合呈獻臺灣優質演出，獲臺灣文化部支持。 \n本作由臺灣國家兩廳院及衛武營國家藝術文化中心共同委託製作，日本城崎國際藝術中心、英國倫敦 The Place 當代舞蹈中心駐村支持，以及 FACP 亞洲文化推展聯盟 Clare C. & Friends Fellowship 製作支持。
