SUMMARY:Planet KL: Kebun-kebun Sungai Klang - Gotong-Royong
DESCRIPTION:Kebun-kebun Sungai Klang is an initiative by Klang River Festival and Kebun-kebun Bangsar to beautify the greenery by the riverside and create a community by the river\, for the river. Before becoming simply a body of water that is heavily polluted\, the Klang River used to be historically\, economically and socially vital to Selangor and Kuala Lumpur\, serving as the birthplace of the capital city\, a crucial 19th-century trade route for tin\, and a major water source. The river has flowed long before us and will continue long after we are gone. What we can do\, in our brief time beside it\, is care for it so future generations may know its life as we have. \nEvery two weeks on Saturday\, from 9am to 12pm\, we organise gotong-royong and gardening sessions to maintain the riverside while bringing the community together. \nPlease note that our sessions are subject to the weather; if it rains in the morning\, the session will be cancelled. Our gardening sessions are suitable for beginners and gardening tools will be provided. Do wear clothes suitable for outdoor activities: non-slip shoes or sneakers\, and a hat or cap. Bring your personal items\, including gardening gloves\, insect repellent and drinking water (kindly avoid bringing single-use plastic bottles). \nAll ages are welcome\, but children below 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Sila bawa barangan peribadi anda seperti sarung tangan berkebun\, semburan penghalau serangga dan air minuman (makluman: elakkan membawa botol plastik pakai-buang). \nKami menjemput semua peringkat umur. Walau bagaimanapun\, peserta berusia 17 tahun ke bawah perlu diiringi oleh ibu bapa atau penjaga.

SUMMARY:Mixed Media from the Golden Period of Malaysian Contemporary Art
DESCRIPTION:Mixed Media from the Golden Period of Malaysian Contemporary Art presents a focused selection of works by first-generation Malaysian contemporary artists drawn from The AFK Collection. Spanning the 1990s to the mid-2010s\, an era recognised as the Golden Period of Malaysian contemporary art\, the exhibition examines a moment of significant artistic experimentation\, when artists moved beyond the conventions of single mediums to adopt hybrid practices incorporating painting\, printmaking\, collage\, assemblage and found materials. Working across these expanded material languages\, artists rapidly responded to the social\, cultural\, political and economic transformations shaping Malaysia at the time\, pushing the conceptual and formal boundaries of contemporary artmaking. \nBuilding on the exhibitions To Know Malaysia is To Love Malaysia: Highlights from The AFK Collection (Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi\, April–September 2025) and Paintings from the Golden Period of Malaysian Contemporary Art (The Drawing Room at Yap Ah Shak House\, August 2025)\, this presentation foregrounds mixed media as a key mode of artistic inquiry during the Golden Period. \nBy bringing these works together\, the exhibition highlights how experimentation with materials and interdisciplinary approaches became central to the emergence of Malaysian contemporary art. \nThe Mixed Media from the Golden Period of Malaysian Contemporary Art is a free walk-in exhibition that does not require prior booking or registration.

SUMMARY:Seri Negara: Charting the Course of Merdeka
DESCRIPTION:Visitors are invited to explore Seri Negara — a historic heritage house where important discussions that led to Malaysia’s independence once took place. \nToday\, the building has been transformed into an immersive heritage destination by Khazanah Nasional Berhad under the larger Warisan KL initiative. Visitors can experience Malaysia’s journey to nationhood through a compelling cinematic film and interactive galleries\, alongside the Galeri Khazanah space showcasing selected works from the Khazanah art collection. \nAfter visiting\, guests can enjoy a meal or coffee at Semuka Cafe or Serai House\, where they can savour delicious local delights within the charming surroundings of this historic building. \nA perfect stop to experience Malaysian history\, art\, culture and cuisine in one place. \nThe historical narratives featured in the “Seri Negara: Charting the Course of Merdeka” exhibition at Seri Negara illuminate Carcosa’s and Seri Negara’s pivotal roles in Malaysia’s journey towards Malaysia’s independence. Tracing the site’s evolution—from its beginnings as the official residence of British colonial administrators and a guesthouse for dignitaries to its transformation into powerful witnesses of nationhood—the exhibition maps defining moments in the formation of modern Malaysia for Malaysians. \nOn the ground floor\, visitors are welcomed by the Introduction space to Seri Negara\, where a chronological timeline of Carcosa and Seri Negara and Seri Negara’s architectural features are presented through a striking installation of a tiered or deconstructed model. A model of Carcosa is showcased\, granting visitors a preview of the building that awaits restoration in the years to come. At Ruang Merdeka\, a curated selection of artworks from the Khazanah Nasional Berhad collection will also be on display\, complementing the hybrid format of the virtual exhibition “Shifting Landscapes: Mapping Space\, Time and Memory”\, and complementing Seri Negara Gallery’s theme on nation-building. \nThe journey continues upstairs\, where the first of four galleries opens with a compelling introduction to Seri Negara’s role as a silent witness to the nation’s unfolding history. Visitors are invited to experience “The Wall Speaks”\, a short cinematic film that brings this story to life through moving imagery and atmospheric storytelling. The exhibition on Seri Negara offers a multifaceted\, inclusive narrative that celebrates the will\, efforts and resistance of the people in building this country from an era before colonial intervention until the signing of the Federation of Malaya and Independence Agreements. As a tribute to Carcosa and Seri Negara’s longstanding legacies\, Seri Negara was chosen as a site to memorialise the country’s heritage and memory\, as well as the people’s aspiration to continuously shape the nation’s future.

DESCRIPTION:Malaysia is home to four otter species\, including the smooth-coated otter\, which is increasingly seen in urban waterways. Their return to certain city rivers signals ecological recovery – yet threats such as habitat fragmentation\, pollution\, illegal pet trade\, and human-wildlife conflict remain pressing. Otters are more than charismatic mammals; they are indicators of river health and environmental governance. \nAn expert public talk examining how conservation science\, urban development and community action intersect to shape the future of otters in Malaysia. This session explores how river ecosystems can thrive even alongside growing skylines. \nWhat Audiences Can Expect \nLatest research findings on Malaysia’s otter population\nCase studies highlighting coexistence challenges\nConservation policy insights and enforcement realities\nPractical pathways for public involvement\n Live Q&A with field experts\nThe talk balances scientific depth with accessible storytelling\, making it engaging for both professionals and curious members of the public. \nFeaturing Malaysian conservation scientists\, wildlife researchers\, and environmental advocates working across riverine and urban ecosystems from the Malaysia Otter Network (MON). MON aims to promote otters as the ambassadors of wetland conservation\, improve the status of the three otter species\, namely the Hairy-nosed Otter\, Smooth-coated Otter\, and Asian Small-clawed Otter\, which are categorised as globally threatened\, and address the immediate threats that the otters are facing\, such as wetland habitat degradation\, illegal pet trading\, and human-otter conflict. \nThis talk is led by the Malaysian Otter Network\, speakers to be announced soon.

SUMMARY:Memory’s Landscape: Works From the Steve Wong Art Collection
DESCRIPTION:Memory\, and the act of remembering\, is never straightforward. It is both active and passive\, straddling the spectrum between the vague and the clear. A memory recollected is born out of negotiations of what we choose to store or omit\, reconstructing compositions of truths and half-truths. Yet memory itself is not a place. Landscapes therefore give memory an anchor — a foreground\, a background\, and everything in between — ranging from scenes of retraced certainty and clarity\, to messy and muddled impressions. \nGDP Architects and R+\, supported by Aēsop\, are delighted to present Memory’s Landscape: Works from the Steve Wong Art Collection. The curation and layout by R+\, enhanced by an infusion of scents by Aēsop\, set the spatial and sensorial tone for the space at GDP Campus. Through a selection of 20 artworks by 19 visual artists\, the exhibition rekindles the familiar yet interconnected ties between memory and landscape — in others\, and of our own. \nExhibition Details\nAdmission fee and visiting slots apply. \nDate: 16 May – 2 August 2026\nOpen on Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday\nOpening hours: 10am – 6pm\nVenue: 79\, Jalan SetiaBakti\, Bukit Damansara\, 50490 Kuala Lumpur \nProgrammes\nRegistration for all programmes is inclusive of exhibition viewing. Choose the corresponding event dates as listed above. \nLines of Site: How We Interrogate Memory\nUnpack the context\, motivation and journey behind the curation in a dialogue with the curator and designers of R+. \nSaturday\, 20 June 2026\n11:00 AM – 12:30 PM \nGuided Tours\nTours offer further insight into the curatorial journey. Discover more about the selected artworks and the curatorial insights. \nSaturday\, 4 & 11 July 2026\n11:00 AM – 12:30 PM \nLines of Sight: How We Capture Memory\nIn this exchange\, creative practitioners recollect the craft of setting and framing things in place. \nSaturday\, 25 July 2026\n11:00 AM – 12:30 PM

SUMMARY:Untitled - Not your typical art exhibition

Audiences can express their thoughts about the art work via letters and envelopes (to be purchased at the door) and place them next to the art work. All proceeds from the purchases will go to the artists. \nA Bingo game is also provided – and the lucky winners will win vouchers to spend in GMBB! \nAll tickets purchased are collectively divided amongst artists to support their work.

SUMMARY:Philippe Gaulier: The Man Who Waits for Freedom
DESCRIPTION:On 9 February 2026\, legendary French theatre master and pedagogue Philippe Gaulier passed away in Paris at the age of 82 due to complications from a lung infection. \nOver the past decades\, his singular approach to teaching profoundly influenced actors\, directors\, and creators around the world. His philosophy of Le Jeu (“Play”) not only transformed acting methods\, but fundamentally reshaped the way performance itself is understood. \nPhilippe Gaulier is widely regarded as one of the most influential and revolutionary theatre teachers of our time. His school\, École Philippe Gaulier\, has long attracted students from more than thirty countries and regions worldwide\, becoming a pilgrimage site for theatre practitioners across the globe. \nHis former students span international film and theatre industries\, including Academy Award-winning actress Emma Thompson\, Sacha Baron Cohen\, Geoffrey Rush\, Helena Bonham Carter\, Kathryn Hunter\, Anthony Wong\, Karena Lam\, Jim Chim\, Vera Chen\, and many others. \nThe title was personally given by Philippe Gaulier himself\, and the film ultimately became one of his final gifts to the world. \nDirected by Christiaan Hendriksen and Samuel Tressler IV\, the documentary follows Gaulier over an extended period through intimate observation and in-depth conversations. \nBeginning with his 80th birthday celebration\, the film captures students from around the world gathering to honour the teacher who transformed their lives\, while also witnessing his final moments of teaching before retirement. \nThe documentary not only reveals his highly distinctive teaching methods\, but also captures his humour\, sharpness\, honesty\, and uncompromising spirit. \nFeatured interviewees include: \n• Anthony Wong • Linda Kerr Scott • Luke Rollason • Cal McCrystal • Viggo Venn and others. \n🗣️ Languages: English\, French & German\n📝 Subtitles: Chinese\, English & Bahasa Melayu \n【Screening Information】 \n📅 23 May 2026 (Saturday)\n📅 30 May 2026 (Saturday)\n📅 6 June 2026 (Saturday) \n🕒 3:00 PM \n📍 GSC @ LaLaport \nTicket price: RM15 \nThis special screening is officially authorised by École Philippe Gaulier\, with the generous support of \n• Chinese Film Association of Malaysia \n• Happy Together Pictures \n• ACT 2 PICTURES
