This unique recital brings together acclaimed Hong Kong baritone Michael CT Lam and Malaysian pianist Bernard Tan for an evening that celebrates storytelling\, poetry\, and the expressive power of the human voice. \nThe programme of opera arias and Chinese art songs include a special world premiere of the art song “黃花川之行” by Anna Vienna Ho\, offering audiences the rare opportunity to witness the first public performance of a newly created work. \nFeatured Artists\nMichael CT Lam (Baritone)\nPraised for a voice of “deliciously deep and rich\,” (Birmingham Post)\, Hong Kong baritone Michael Chun Ting Lam is a wide-ranging opera and concert soloist. He has performed in numerous countries\, showcasing his talent in locations such as the United Kingdom\, Italy\, France\, Germany\, Austria\, Hungary\, Vietnam\, the Philippines\, Singapore and Japan. He trained at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music\, Hungary\, as a recipient of the Joseph Weingarten Scholarship. He received his Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire\, where he was awarded the St Clare Barfield Memorial Bowl for Operatic Distinction and was supported by Opera Hong Kong K Wah International Vocal Scholarship and Foundation for the Arts and Music in Asia Limited (FAMA) Vocal Scholarships. Prior to that\, he gained his Bachelor of Music from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts\, where he received a number of scholarships\, including Welsh Male Choir Scholarship\, the Bernard van Zuiden Music Fund\, and The Hong Kong Children’s Choir ChanHo Choi Memorial Scholarship\, among others. \nBernard Tan (Piano)\nMalaysian pianist\, conductor and music educator Bernard Tan holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from the University of Michigan\, USA\, where he studied under the esteemed Martin Katz. He also earned his Master of Music with Distinction from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in the United Kingdom. As a pianist\, he was praised by British pianist Robin Bowman for his “admirable physiological setup\,” reflecting his commitment to technique as the foundation of expressive performance. Bernard’s opera conducting portfolio includes La Bohème\, Don Giovanni\, and The Merry Widow with Kuala Lumpur City Opera. He has established a significant international footprint as an opera coach\, holding fellowships at the Music Academy of the West and serving as a regular coach at the Veneto Opera Summer School (VOSS) in Italy. Actively involved in masterclasses\, performances\, workshops\, and studio teaching\, Bernard currently serves as a senior lecturer at the Department of Music\, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
