SUMMARY:Maybank Art Collection Exhibition (MACE)
DESCRIPTION:The Maybank Art Collection Exhibition (MACE) marks the first time Maybank is presenting selected artworks from its collection to the public. \nOver several decades\, Maybank has built an art collection through works that were acquired and gifted to the Bank. Many of these artworks have long been part of Maybank’s offices and public spaces\, encountered in everyday settings rather than in a gallery context. MACE brings these works together in a curated exhibition\, allowing them to be viewed\, experienced\, and engaged with more intentionally. \nThe exhibition reflects Maybank’s role as a custodian of these artworks. In opening the collection to the public\, MACE aims to make the works more accessible while respecting the artists\, the integrity of the artworks\, and the broader cultural landscape they belong to. \nVisitor Information\nExhibition Period: 11 February to 22 May 2026 \nGallery Hours: Monday to Friday | 10.00am – 5.00pm (Closed on public holidays) \nVenue: Balai Seni Maybank\, Menara Maybank\, Kuala Lumpur \nAdmission: Free entry

SUMMARY:Whispering Pixels
DESCRIPTION:Downtown Kuala Lumpur has always been full of memories. Over the years\, and especially after the pandemic\, many familiar places such as traditional kopitiams and family-run shops have changed or disappeared\, while some have managed to endure. For those who grew up here\, these changes are not just physical; they also represent the gradual loss of personal and shared memories. \nWhispering Pixels is a physical exhibition and a digital archive that helps preserve these memories using digital technology\, allowing them to be experienced by a wider community. As many of these stories are not found in conventional museums\, the project documents meaningful personal objects and the stories behind them\, creating a living digital archive of shared memories. \nA special feature of the project is its co-creation process\, where seniors work together with artists and younger generations to document their own stories. They select meaningful objects and participate in activities such as digital photography\, scrapbooking\, and 3D scanning. This collaboration empowers seniors as co-creators of their own histories while fostering meaningful intergenerational connections. \nWhispering Pixels invites everyone to reflect on the changes around them and appreciate the memories embedded in everyday objects. \nThis is a free walk-in programme that does not require prior bookings or registration. Simply come to the GMBB and enjoy!

SUMMARY:A Path Carved by My Returning - Art Exhibition by Ilham Alshahab
DESCRIPTION:In A Path Carved By My Returning\, Ilham Alshahab invites viewers to slow down and reconsider the act of looking\, how repeated encounters with the familiar and mundane can shift in perception\, allowing what was once passed by to come into view through time and attention. \nDrawing from her experience of returning and repeating her cycling route in her neighbourhood\, the work traces her shift from restlessness to attention. Small moments that once lingered in the edges of her vision begin to take precedence\, moving from the periphery to the centre. \nA path is slowly carved through the accumulation of her visits to the periphery. Where looking again and again allows the ordinary to unfold into something expansive. \nThis body of work will be on display at The Dia Space from 1 May 2026 till 31 July 2026.

DESCRIPTION:Little statues\, historical figures\, the smell of curry\, a demolished theatre\, a contemporary art museum\, ayam ros and briyani\, colourful textiles\, a flower shop\, a Myanmar store\, a group of passersby in yellow shirts… \nTumpang Lalu gathers these fleeting details into three interwoven speculative stories. You will journey from a humid afternoon in the 1890s\, where a young Temuan man and a British architect grapple with change and belonging\, to the bustling crossroads of today\, where a curious journalist encounters mischievous spirits quietly witnessing history’s turning points\, and finally to a tender modern tale of love\, where two young people discover connection amidst temples\, theatres and hawker stalls. Along the way\, you will wander through markets\, memories and migrations\, noticing how past\, present and future overlap. By turns reflective\, playful and intimate\, the experience invites you to pause\, listen and consider what it means to tumpang\, to pass through\, to belong\, even if only for a moment. \nCreated for KL Festival 2026\, Tumpang Lalu responds to the theme Memory and Tomorrow by transforming Kuala Lumpur into a living narrative landscape. Set along a walking route spanning Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad\, Medan Pasar\, Kota Raya\, Petaling Street\, and Central Market\, it transforms the city into a living soundscape where memory\, history\, fiction and imagination converge. By combining the act of walking with the intimacy of audio\, it evokes the feeling of coming and going\, of movement\, transience and passing through\, inviting you to momentarily inhabit stories that are not entirely yours\, yet strangely familiar.

SUMMARY:Under the Shadows of Merdeka Photography Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Malaysia gained its independence in 1957. Fast forward 67 years and Menara Merdeka 118\, the second tallest building in the world\, stands proudly in the centre of Kuala Lumpur. \nNeedless to say\, progress and change in the capital have been rapid. The cityscape is filled with modern infrastructure and skyscrapers\, yet historical\, traditional and cultural characteristics persevere. \n‘Under the Shadows of Merdeka’ is a visual documentation of the precincts surrounding Menara Merdeka 118. In the heart of Kuala Lumpur\, people\, places and moments are captured in black & white by photographers Azul Adnan and Grace Ho Pui Wan. These photos set out to preserve both the old and the new\, showing how the city has developed since Malaysia’s independence. \nThis project was under the Merdeka 118 Community Grants Programme Cycle 2 by Think City and PNB Merdeka Ventures. It involved Azul and Grace photographing the areas around Merdeka 118\, conducting photography workshops for schools\, exhibiting the images and publishing a photo book in December 2024. \nThis exhibition\, held at the South Lobby of Menara Merdeka 118\, will be the third time some of these photos are displayed to the public\, the first being inside Stadium Merdeka (2024) and the second being at GMBB (2025). There will be some newer images that will be exhibited for the first time.

SUMMARY:Pola TAR - Mapping Patterns
DESCRIPTION:PolaTAR is a site-specific arts and fashion programme that reimagines Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (Jalan TAR) as a living cultural ecosystem within Kuala Lumpur’s creative economy. \nDrawing inspiration from everyday fashion labour — measuring\, stitching\, repairing\, selling\, wearing — PolaTAR celebrates fashion not limited to style\, but as living memory. Through two key pillars\, the programme connects people\, place and practice. \nThe first part\, Mapping Patterns\, is a collaborative project linking fashion students with local garment makers along Jalan TAR. Each student partners with a practitioner to document their craft and stories. These encounters are transformed into site-specific installations across the neighbourhood.

SUMMARY:Secret Trees of KL
DESCRIPTION:When you think of KL’s Chinatown\, you might not think of its greenery. But in the very heart of the city\, there are hidden corners where trees are quietly thriving — shading footpaths with their leafy boughs\, offering a breath of fresh air and providing spiritual relief and refreshment for the eyes and heart. And for the birds\, insects and wildlife that call it home\, every tree is a lifeline. \nSome of these trees have been planted; some planted themselves. Some were once cherished and worshipped\, and have now been abandoned. Some are native\, while others have come from the opposite ends of the earth. \nThe trees of Chinatown give us a unique perspective on the history and culture of our capital city\, from its muddy origins\, through its colonial past\, to today’s crowded urban jungle and glowing national pride. \nJoin us on an easy walk around Chinatown\, to meet these leafy survivors. Learn to recognise a few common roadside tree species\, celebrate the pockets of biodiversity that trees sustain\, and see the city from a tree’s point of view. \nThe tour ends with a special chance to take home and nurture your own living example of Malaysia’s trees. Free Tree Society will provide free native trees saplings or shrubs for all tour participants. \nABOUT THE TOUR GUIDE \nThe guided tour will be conducted by Bilqis Hijjas\, director of Rimbun Dahan\, a rewilding experiment and accredited arboretum outside Kuala Lumpur. Although her degrees are in social studies\, anthropology and the arts\, Bilqis is an amateur naturalist with a desire to encourage Malaysians to notice and appreciate the richness of their natural environment. She is in charge of documenting wildlife at Rimbun Dahan\, which\, at last count\, included 113 species of birds\, 44 species of dragonflies and damselflies\, 86 species of butterflies\, numerous reptiles\, amphibians and mammals — and over 500 species of trees. \nABOUT FREE TREE SOCIETY \nEstablished in 2012\, Free Tree Society is a homegrown environmental organisation dedicated to changing how we interact with our planet. Through awareness and empowerment\, it inspires people to protect natural environments and promote native plants as a vital tool for supporting local biodiversity. \nPLEASE NOTE: \nThe walking tour starts outside Entrance A of Pasar Seni MRT Station (opposite Chagee). The route follows Kuala Lumpur pavements\, and involves crossing roads\, and standing in populated areas. Although the organisers will take all possible care to guide the participants carefully\, to warn them of risks\, and to cross roads at designated crossing points\, all participants are responsible for their own safety on the tour. This tour is not wheelchair accessible. As the tour primarily involves standing and listening\, it may not be suitable for young children. Please wear comfortable walking shoes; you may wish to bring a hat or umbrella\, and a bottle of water. The tour will end close to where it begins. SUMMARY:MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
DESCRIPTION:“Don’t lose your A-PEEL!” \nTwisting Shakespeare with polo\, parties\, pranks and pickles-a-plenty in 1930s Penang. \nA very special production for KLSP as this show features a cast of 17 actors\, including both veterans and newbies – all of whom have received our training in performing Shakespeare. \nAlthough this show only use Shakespeare’s text (there will be subtitles in BM and Chinese)\, it is presented within the flamboyant setting of a polo club in 1930s Penang. Here\, Leonato is a Chinese tycoon\, entertaining royalty at his palatial home\, where he is thrilled to discover that the champion polo player wants to marry his daughter. As the partying continues into the weekend\, tricks are played and misunderstandings ensue\, turning laughter into tears until the security guards uncover a dastardly plot\, and finally a happier wedding (or two) can take place. \n“Much Ado About Nothing” can appear to simply be an hilarious tale of pranks and romance\, but it also presents the struggles of a family dealing with the shame of their daughter being falsely accused. The Malaysian setting of our production helps to highlight the relevance of this story for Asian families\, while its placement in the 1930s creates some reflective distance to these issues. \nHighlights:\n– 17 actors\n– Shakespeare’s text only but with BM/Chinese subtitles\n– set in 1930’s polo club in Penang\n– many scenes of hilarious physical comedy\n– includes music and dancing\n– mix of live action and projected film\n– presents issues relevant to young people – friendship vs romance\, misunderstand and …

SUMMARY:Warung TERANG
DESCRIPTION:KL art collective Filamen will create a series of laneway projection activations that transforms the streets of downtown KL into a vibrant open-air canvas through light and storytelling. \nAlongside these projections\, Warung TERANG will also host a regional competition with artist workshops\, and public sharing sessions\, bringing together artists\, students and the wider community to engage with contemporary digital art set against the backdrop of downtown KL. \nIn-line with KL Festival 2026’s theme of Memory and Tomorrow\, Warung TERANG will explore the theme of “Pasar” (Market in Malay). In Malaysia and across South-East Asia\, the marketplace is a dynamic space where cultures\, trade and communities intersect – an ever-flowing confluence that can be traced back to Pasar Seni at the birth of Kuala Lumpur. In the same spirit\, Warung TERANG will activate buildings as sites of exchange\, using projection mapping to reflect an intellectual exchange of narratives that inspires viewers to imagine and innovate further. \nPengurus Projek: Abdul Shakir \nKetua Teknikal: Kamzai Affandi \nArtis: \n1- Fairuz Sulaiman \n2- The Fox The Folks (Indonesia) \n3- Hue (Indonesia) \n4- Tan Ji Kian \n5- RUOH

SUMMARY:Planet KL: Kebun-kebun Sungai Klang - Gotong-Royong
DESCRIPTION:Kebun-kebun Sungai Klang is an initiative by Klang River Festival and Kebun-kebun Bangsar to beautify the greenery by the riverside and create a community by the river\, for the river. Before becoming simply a body of water that is heavily polluted\, the Klang River used to be historically\, economically and socially vital to Selangor and Kuala Lumpur\, serving as the birthplace of the capital city\, a crucial 19th-century trade route for tin\, and a major water source. The river has flowed long before us and will continue long after we are gone. What we can do\, in our brief time beside it\, is care for it so future generations may know its life as we have. \nEvery two weeks on Saturday\, from 9am to 12pm\, we organise gotong-royong and gardening sessions to maintain the riverside while bringing the community together. \nPlease note that our sessions are subject to the weather; if it rains in the morning\, the session will be cancelled. Our gardening sessions are suitable for beginners and gardening tools will be provided. Do wear clothes suitable for outdoor activities: non-slip shoes or sneakers\, and a hat or cap. Bring your personal items\, including gardening gloves\, insect repellent and drinking water (kindly avoid bringing single-use plastic bottles). \nAll ages are welcome\, but children below 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Sila bawa barangan peribadi anda seperti sarung tangan berkebun\, semburan penghalau serangga dan air minuman (makluman: elakkan membawa botol plastik pakai-buang). \nKami menjemput semua peringkat umur.
